Continued Crack Down on Online Advertising Technologies: Hospital Settles with NY AG for Misusing Patient Data in Targeted Advertising

New York Attorney General Letitia James secured a $300,000 settlement from New York-Presbyterian Hospital for failing to protect patient data.

The hospital's website used advertising tools that shared visitors' personal and health information with third-party tech companies, violating HIPAA. This included data from those searching for doctors or booking appointments.

This settlement is part of ongoing efforts to protect personal information and enforce data security practices.

An OAG investigation found that NYP did not have appropriate internal policies or procedures for vetting third-party tracking tools and did not review or vet third-party tracking tools for violations of policy or law prior to their deployment.
